IT’S TOURNAMENT WEEK!

We got a BIG week ahead at Cross Court!

Our fall leagues are rolling, drop-ins are keeping the courts busy, another league kicks off this week, and most importantly, our 2nd Annual Charity Team Tournament in support of the Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation is happening THIS SUNDAY!

Here’s everything you need to know this week.

THIS SUNDAY: 2ND ANNUAL CHARITY TEAM TOURNAMENT!

Sunday, September 27 | 11:00 AM

Cross Court Dartmouth

Tournament week is officially here!

This Sunday, teams will take over Cross Court Dartmouth for our 2nd Annual Charity Team Tournament in support of the Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation.

This year’s event will feature teams competing within the MiLP 11.83–14 range, which means we have a fairly tight field with lots of teams clustered right in the middle.

We’ll have medals, prizes, music and plenty of pickleball throughout the day!

Players should plan to arrive 30 minutes before the 11:00 AM start time, and the event is expected to run approximately 6–8 hours.

We currently have SEVEN teams and would LOVE to round things out with an eighth!

If you’ve been thinking about putting a team together, this is your chance. Reach out to us as soon as possible and we’ll see if we can help make it happen.

We can’t wait for Sunday!

A REMINDER FOR OUR LEAGUE PLAYERS

We’re now well into our fall league schedule, so here are a few quick reminders to help everything run smoothly.

If you’re unable to attend a league night, it is the player’s responsibility to find a substitute.

All substitutes must have an active Cross Court membership and must fall within the appropriate rating range for the league.

This is especially important for DUPR-rated leagues. Bringing in a substitute significantly outside of the intended range can affect the quality of play and potentially impact the ratings of everyone on the court.

Please post in our Facebook group as early as possible when you know you need a sub. There are lots of Cross Court players happy to pick up an extra night of pickleball!

DROP-IN AND PLAY!

Not looking for a full league commitment? Drop-ins are one of the easiest ways to add some extra pickleball to your week.

NEVER PLAYED PICKLEBALL BEFORE?

There’s no better time to start!

Our Intro to Pickleball sessions are designed specifically for complete beginners.

You don’t need a paddle. You don’t need experience. You don’t even need a Cross Court membership!

We provide the equipment and walk you through the basics of the game, including rules, scoring, positioning and some of the fundamental shots you’ll need to get started.

BEDFORD

Mondays | 7:00 PM–9:00 PM

DARTMOUTH

Thursdays | 7:00 PM–9:00 PM | Bi-weekly

Know someone who keeps saying they want to try pickleball? Send them our way!

SKILLS & DRILLS

Sometimes the fastest way to improve isn’t playing another game. It’s taking the time to actually work on the shots you use during those games.

Our Skills & Drills sessions give players a chance to focus on technique, consistency, positioning, shot selection, dinking, resets, strategy and more.

BEDFORD

Tuesdays | 5:00 PM

DARTMOUTH

Wednesdays | 9:00 AM

Register through Mindbody to reserve your spot.

WANT SOME ONE-ON-ONE HELP?

Private and semi-private lessons are also available for players who want more individualized instruction.

1 player | $60/hour

2 players | $40/hour each

3–4 players | $30/hour each

Lessons can be tailored to the specific parts of your game you want to improve.

Email info@crosscourtpickleball.ca to arrange a lesson.

FACILITY REMINDER

Please help us keep Cross Court in great shape for everyone.

If you notice damaged equipment, something out of place or anything within the facility that doesn’t seem right, please let us know rather than attempting to adjust or repair it yourself.

And another reminder for Dartmouth:

Please do not touch, move, adjust or unplug the camera in the table tennis room.

It needs to remain exactly where it has been positioned.

Thank you for helping us look after the facility!

TIP OF THE WEEK

Get back to ready position after EVERY shot.

It sounds simple, but it’s one of the easiest habits to lose during a fast rally.

After hitting the ball, bring your paddle back in front of you and prepare for the next shot.

Leaving your paddle hanging at your side or finishing with a huge backswing means you have farther to travel when the ball comes back quickly.

At the kitchen line, those fractions of a second matter.

Hit. Reset. Get ready again.

Make it automatic.

DID YOU KNOW?

The best place to stand isn’t always where you just hit the ball from.

Pickleball is constantly changing based on where the ball, your partner and your opponents are positioned.

That means good players are almost always making small adjustments between shots.

Sometimes moving just one or two steps can be the difference between reaching the next ball comfortably and scrambling for it.

Instead of watching your shot after you hit it, immediately ask yourself:

“Where should I be for the next ball?”

That little habit can make a huge difference.

SEE YOU ON THE COURTS!

We have another busy week ahead at Cross Court, and we’re especially excited to finish it off with our Charity Team Tournament on Sunday!

Whether you’re playing in a league, jumping into a drop-in, working on your game or coming out for the tournament, we hope to see you around the courts.

And remember, we’re still looking for that EIGHTH TEAM for Sunday!

Let’s make it a great week!
