At Cross Court, we’re not just building better players, we’re building habits.
The players who improve the fastest usually aren’t the ones playing once in a while when it’s convenient. They’re the ones who keep showing up. Week after week. Session after session. Even when life gets busy.
That’s where confidence comes from.
That’s where consistency comes from.
And that’s where your game starts separating from the pack.
A lot of people play pickleball.
Not everyone trains with purpose.
DUPR, Ratings & How Our Skill Gating Works
We’ve had a lot of great conversations lately around DUPR, ratings, league eligibility, and what happens when someone’s rating changes—so we wanted to clear a few things up.
At Cross Court Pickleball, skill gating exists for one reason:
To create the best possible playing experience for everyone.
When leagues and events are built with reasonably matched players, games are more competitive, more enjoyable, and more productive for player development.
That said, DUPR is not static.
Your rating can move during a session. It can move after one match, one event, or one strong (or weak) performance. That’s normal.
Because of that, here’s how our gating works:
You are assessed based on your rating at the time you register.
If your DUPR changes during the league, event, or after registration, we are not going to remove you because you improved… or because your number moved slightly outside the posted range.
Improvement should never be punished.
We also understand that DUPR isn’t perfect and doesn’t always reflect a player’s true level, especially with newer players or players with limited match history. That’s why we allow a small amount of flexibility on both ends of some divisions when appropriate.
Our goal is not to “gatekeep people out.”
Our goal is to protect competitive balance while still giving players room to grow.
Please remember:
• A number doesn’t tell the full story
• Ratings naturally move up and down
• One session does not define a player
• Respect for fellow competitors always comes first
When it comes to DUPR and ratings, try not to get too caught up in the numbers. Ratings can move up and down from session to session depending on matchups, partners, opponents, and even the type of games being played. The most important thing is to keep showing up, competing, improving, and enjoying the process. At the end of the day, pickleball is meant to be fun.
We appreciate everyone who trusts the process, competes hard, and helps us keep leagues fair, competitive, and fun.
The Difference Between Playing and Improving
There’s nothing wrong with just getting games in.
But if you want to actually level up, ask yourself:
Are you working on the parts of your game that cost you points?
• Are you rushing your thirds?
• Are you forcing speed-ups at the wrong time?
• Are your resets breaking down under pressure?
• Are you communicating with your partner—or assuming?
• Are you moving with purpose, or reacting late?
These little things matter.
And the best part? They’re all fixable.

Leagues Are Heating Up
We’re now into a strong stretch of league play, and it’s been awesome watching players settle in, build chemistry, and start making smarter decisions.
Leagues aren’t just competition.
They expose patterns.
They show you where your game holds up… and where it doesn’t.
That’s valuable.
If you’re in a league right now, keep showing up ready to learn, not just ready to win.
That mindset changes everything.

Drop-Ins Continue to Deliver
Drop-ins have been busy, and for good reason.
They’re one of the best ways to:
• Get extra games
• Play against different styles
• Test new shots in live situations
• Meet new players in the club
• Stay sharp between leagues
If you’re only playing once a week right now, adding one drop-in can make a massive difference.
Many sessions are filling early, so don’t wait.
