A QUICK REMINDER FOR LEAGUE SUBSTITUTES

If you’re unable to attend one week of your league, it is your responsibility to find a substitute.

Please make every effort to find someone who falls within the advertised rating range of your league. This is especially important on DUPR nights.

Players register for leagues expecting to play against others within a certain skill range. Bringing in a substitute who is significantly above or below that range can affect the quality of play and DUPR results.

If you need help finding someone, post in our Facebook group as early as possible. There are usually plenty of players looking for an opportunity to sub!

COURT ETIQUETTE: KEEP IT RESPECTFUL

We all want great games, and sometimes the little things make the biggest difference.

Please remember to call the score clearly before serving, return stray balls safely, avoid walking behind or through another court while a point is being played and give your partner the same encouragement you’d want from them.

We all have bad shots, bad games and bad days.

Pickleball is competitive, but it should still be fun. Be the person people look forward to sharing a court with.

TIP OF THE WEEK: PLAY THE NEXT BALL

One of the most important skills in pickleball is learning to reset quickly and focus on the next ball.

Made a mistake? Let it go.

Hit a great shot? Stay focused.

Lost a long rally? Take a breath and get ready for the next point.

The best players aren’t perfect. They simply recover quickly and stay present.

Focus on the ball in front of you, communicate with your partner and play one point at a time.

DID YOU KNOW?

The kitchen line isn’t just a place to stand, it’s where a huge percentage of pickleball points are won and lost.

Getting to the kitchen quickly is important, but getting there under control is even more important.

Instead of rushing forward after your third shot, move up when the ball allows you to. Sometimes that means stopping in transition, hitting a reset and then continuing forward.

The goal isn’t to get to the kitchen first. It’s to get there ready to play the next ball.

KEEP THE MOMENTUM GOING!

Thank you to everyone who represented Cross Court at the Nova Scotia Open this week end, and congratulations again to all of the players who competed!

Whether you’re joining a league, dropping in for a few games, taking your first Intro class, working on your skills or booking a court with friends, we’ll see you on the courts.
