NEED A SUB? PLEASE KEEP IT IN YOUR LEVEL!

A quick reminder for everyone participating in our leagues:

If you’re unable to attend one week, it is your responsibility to find a substitute.

Please make every effort to find someone who falls within the advertised rating range of your league.

This is especially important on DUPR nights.

Players register for leagues expecting to play against others within a certain skill range, and bringing in a substitute significantly above or below that range can affect both the quality of play and DUPR results.

If you need help finding someone, post in our Facebook group as early as possible. There are usually plenty of players looking for an opportunity to sub!

DROP IN THIS WEEK!

Can’t commit to four weeks? No problem.

Drop-ins are a great way to get some games in, meet other Cross Court players and add a little extra pickleball to your week.

BRAND NEW TO PICKLEBALL? START HERE!

We hear it all the time:

“I want to try pickleball, but I don’t know how to play.”

Perfect. That’s exactly what our Intro to Pickleball sessions are for!

These two-hour sessions are designed for complete beginners. We’ll teach you the basics, including scoring, rules, positioning and fundamental shots, so you can leave feeling comfortable enough to start playing.

No experience required. No paddle required. No Cross Court membership required.

BEDFORD

Mondays | 7:00 PM–9:00 PM

DARTMOUTH

Thursdays | 7:00 PM–9:00 PM | Bi-weekly

If you have a friend, family member or coworker who keeps saying they want to try pickleball, send them our way!

WANT TO IMPROVE YOUR GAME?

Playing more games is fun, but sometimes improving means slowing things down and actually working on your shots.

That’s what Skills & Drills is all about.

These coached sessions focus on things like consistency, shot selection, dinking, resets, positioning, strategy and the skills that will help you become a stronger player.

BEDFORD

Tuesdays | 5:00 PM

DARTMOUTH

Wednesdays | 9:00 AM

Register through Mindbody or HERE to reserve your spot.

LOOKING FOR MORE INDIVIDUAL ATTENTION?

Private and semi-private lessons are available for players who want to focus on specific areas of their game.

1 player | $60/hour

2 players | $40/hour each

3–4 players | $30/hour each

Whether you’re brand new, trying to clean up a particular shot or looking for some strategy help, lessons can be tailored to what you want to work on.

Email info@crosscourtpickleball.ca to arrange a lesson.

A QUICK COURT ETIQUETTE REMINDER

We all want great games, and sometimes the little things make the biggest difference.

Please remember to be respectful of the players on your court.

Call the score clearly before serving, return stray balls safely, avoid walking behind or through another court while a point is being played, and give your partner the same encouragement you’d want from them.

And remember, we all have bad shots, bad games and bad days.

Pickleball is competitive, but it should still be fun.

Be the person people look forward to sharing a court with.

TIP OF THE WEEK: STOP TRYING TO WIN EVERY POINT WITH ONE SHOT

One of the biggest differences between developing players and more experienced players is patience.

Not every ball needs to be a winner.

Sometimes the best shot is simply one that keeps you in the rally and makes your opponent hit another ball.

Instead of thinking:

“How do I win this point right now?”

Try thinking:

“How do I make them hit one more shot?”

Keep the ball low. Stay patient. Wait for the attackable ball.

You don’t always have to create the winner.

Sometimes you just have to avoid being the one who makes the mistake.

DID YOU KNOW?

Communication between partners can make a HUGE difference, especially when the game gets fast.

Simple calls like “mine,” “yours,” “bounce,” “out” and even a quick reminder like “we’re good” can keep both players focused and prevent confusion.

And don’t underestimate the value of encouraging your partner after a mistake.

A quick paddle tap and “next one” can do a lot more for your team than pointing out what just went wrong.

Good partners don’t just play well together.

They help each other play better.

LET’S START OCTOBER STRONG!

September was a busy month at Cross Court, and we’re excited to keep that momentum going into October.

Thank you again to everyone who participated in yesterday’s Charity Team Tournament and to our entire Cross Court community for continuing to show up, play, compete and support one another.

Whether you’re starting a new league, jumping into a drop-in, taking your first Intro class, working on your game or just booking a court with friends, we’ll see you on the courts!
